Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 5, 2026
Overview
Online Ruler ("we", "our", "the service") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. The short version: we collect almost nothing ourselves, we do not sell your personal data, and we use advertising to keep the Service free.
1. Information We Collect
We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use Online Ruler.
The ruler tool runs entirely in your browser. Any calibration data (your screen PPI, chosen calibration method, unit preference, theme preference) is stored only in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted to our servers.
We may collect the following non-personal, aggregated data through standard server logs and analytics:
- Pages visited and approximate session duration;
- Browser type and operating system (aggregated);
- Referring website or search engine;
- Country-level geographic region (not precise location).
2. Cookies & Advertising
Online Ruler is a free service supported by advertising. We use localStorage (not cookies) to remember your calibration and theme preference between visits — this data never leaves your device.
Our advertising partners (such as Google AdSense) may use cookies, web beacons, or similar device identifiers to serve ads on this website, measure their performance, and — where permitted and with your consent — personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising at any time:
- Via Google Ads Settings;
- Via aboutads.info/choices or the NAI opt-out page for participating vendors;
- Or through the consent choices offered to you when prompted (for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland).
You can also clear cookies and site data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for rulergo.com. Note that clearing site data will also remove your saved calibration and theme preferences.
3. Third-Party Services
We use Google Fonts to load the Geist and Geist Mono typefaces. When your browser downloads these fonts, Google may log your IP address as part of standard font delivery. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.
We display advertising delivered by third-party ad networks. These partners operate under their own privacy policies, which govern the data they collect through ads shown on this site. We do not embed social media widgets or any other third-party trackers beyond the analytics, font delivery, and advertising described in this policy.
4. Data Retention
We do not store personal data on our servers. Server access logs, if retained, are kept for no longer than 90 days and are used solely to diagnose technical issues. Advertising and analytics partners may retain data under their own retention policies; please consult their respective privacy policies for details.
5. Children's Privacy
Online Ruler is a general-purpose tool suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Since we collect no personal information from any user ourselves, the Service is designed to be compatible with COPPA; advertising shown on the Service is likewise subject to the ad partners' own policies regarding children's data.
6. Your Rights
Because we do not collect identifiable personal data ourselves, there is typically nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on your behalf. If you have concerns, please contact us and we will respond promptly.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase any personal data we hold, to object to or restrict processing (including personalized advertising, which you may decline via the consent prompt or the opt-out links above), and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, you may request disclosure of information collected for advertising purposes and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA — advertising cookies may constitute such "sharing," and the opt-out links in Section 2 allow you to disable it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — including as we add or change advertising or analytics providers. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
